Speech Pathology & Diigo

What is Diigo?
"Diigo" is an abbreviation for "Digest of Internet Information, Groups and Other stuff." Diigo is an online channel whereby you can share and discover information of a professional or personal nature.  It organises your resources and links chosen and easily accessed. Diigo Groups provides a ground-breaking collaborative research and learning tool that allows any group of people to pool their findings through group bookmarks, highlights, sticky notes, and forum. I found it to be particularly useful in developing resources about speech and language pathology as i enter my fourth year studies as a student and also applicable resource to my lifelong learning. Comments can be made from any diigo user which can be useful when in need of others ideas and opinions.  As a professional I think diigo is a very valuable tool in learning and for maintaining an evidence-based practice.

Getting started
*Joining diigo is as easy as clicking on this link and entering your username/email address and password.
or
* It can be goggled and easy to navigate your way to the join up link (i.e. google ‘diigo’, it will be the first google match, once clicked ‘sign up’ is on the top right hand side of the page).
or
*It can be accessed at http://www.diigo.com/ (sign in is on the top right hand side of the page).

Adding friends:
Click on your username on the top right hand side of the page and then it will be the third link down ‘friends’ and from there you can search or add friends.
Searching for articles/resources and adding them to your page:
There is always a search tab at the top right hand side of the page in diigo where you can search topics of interest and a range of other search options are offered once you start typing in the box. If you type in ‘speech pathology’ an option will come up saying ‘find groups interested in speech pathology’ and once clicked on it will open up hundreds of speech pathology related sites that can be browsed. If of interest you can click on ‘join this group’ and will have direct access to it on your home page. There will be links to resources within this group that can be viewed by clicking on the green hyperlink.
This, I found was the easiest way to start using diigo and get familiar with the processes involved in sharing and discovering information.
